Sustainability

Sustainability at Metex is a team effort.

Sustainability Policy

At Metex, sustainability is driven both by our commitment to responsible business and by the expectations of our customers and partners. As a British based manufacturer serving the construction and DIY sectors, we recognise our responsibility to reduce our environmental footprint while delivering high-quality, long-lasting products.

We’re proud to work with major customers who hold exacting sustainability standards, and we’re equally committed to meeting and exceeding those expectations through ongoing improvement across our operations, supply chain, and product design.

Packaging and Materials

We are continually refining our product packaging to ensure it has the lowest environmental impact possible, while still protecting and presenting our products professionally.

  • All of our brand packaging is made from recycled paper or card, and is widely recyclable in the UK.
  • Our preferred materials are fibre-based and sustainably sourced, certified by schemes such as FSC or PEFC.
  • We are working to eliminate single-use plastics entirely and minimise packaging waste throughout our supply chain.
  • We have completely eliminated the use of single use plastic packaging in our fixings packaging.
  • Where plastic is necessary, we use recyclable polymers with at least 30% recycled content.
  • A standout example is our wood pulp-based carton windows, which do not require separation during recycling. This is a more sustainable alternative to the plastic windows used by many competitors.

Internally, we’ve also reduced plastic usage in our operations by switching to paper-based alternatives, such as paper parcel tape.

Sustainable Manufacturing and Sourcing

As a manufacturer, we take care to source responsibly and reduce environmental impact at every stage of our process.

  • We prioritise UK-based suppliers where economically viable, reducing transport-related emissions.
  • When sourcing internationally, we uphold strict ethical and environmental standards, requiring our suppliers to be audited or assessed through recognised compliance schemes such as SEDEX, BSCI or EcoVadis.
  • Metex itself is a SEDEX-registered and compliant business.
  • All products are designed for medium to long-term use, never for single use, supporting waste reduction on-site.

Energy and Emissions

While we continue to improve the energy efficiency of our current operations, we have ambitious plans for the future:

  • Our new facility planned for 2026 will feature solar panels and battery storage, enabling us to generate and store renewable energy on-site.
  • Our energy supplier currently uses an estimated 50% renewable energy.
  • All future company vehicles are planned to be either hybrid or fully electric, reducing emissions from transport.

People and Continuous Improvement

Sustainability at Metex is a team effort. Material selection comes into our in-house packaging design, and our staff are engaged in internal waste reduction processes, such as recycling.

We are continuously monitoring our performance and seeking ways to improve. We’re currently reviewing our carbon footprint and are working towards a target of becoming a carbon neutral business by 2035.

Looking Ahead

Metex is committed to ongoing improvement, transparency, and working closely with our suppliers, customers, and team to ensure we meet the highest standards in environmental and ethical responsibility. We know that sustainability is a journey, and we’re proud to be making steady progress, with much more to come.

We know there’s more to do. Over the coming months and years, we’re setting clear targets to reduce our carbon footprint, improve product sustainability, and further embed responsible practices across our business.
