FAQs about Metex Sprayers

What is the best sprayer for applying concrete curing compound?

A pressure sprayer with FKM seals is the best choice for concrete curing compound, because the seals resist the chemicals that break down standard rubber seals. The Chapin 1949 is built for this job, with a 13.2 litre powder coated steel tank, a 100mm wide mouth for easy filling and cleaning, and a lockable dripless shut off. It also handles form oils, mould oils and pattern imprinted concrete sealer.

What are FKM seals on a pressure sprayer?

FKM seals are fluoroelastomer seals designed to resist strong chemicals, oils and solvents without swelling or degrading. FKM is the standard international name for the material, and Viton is a registered trade name for the same type of seal. Every sprayer in the Chapin range sold by Metex, apart from the 1002 1.5 litre handheld, uses FKM seals and gaskets, which makes them suitable for curing agents, sealers, cleaners and other site chemicals.

What chemicals can I use in a Chapin pressure sprayer?

Chapin FKM seal sprayers are compatible with curing agents, mould oil, bleach, sodium hypochlorite, disinfectants, brick and concrete cleaner, patio and driveway cleaner and sealer, herbicides, pesticides, fertilisers, traffic film remover and liquid de-icer. The Chapin 1002 handheld sprayer has a narrower compatibility range and is more suited to disinfectants, garden chemicals, and general cleaning. Acetone-based chemicals should not be used as they’re only suitable for sprayers specifically designed for acetone. Always check the chemical manufacturer’s guidance before spraying.

Should I choose a metal or plastic pressure sprayer?

Metal pressure sprayers are the better choice for heavy daily use on construction sites, while plastic sprayers are lighter and resist corrosion. Metal tanks stand up well to knocks and rough handling on site, which suits concrete and screed contractors. Plastic tanks are easier to carry when full, and work well for cleaning, landscaping and general maintenance work. Both types in the Chapin range use FKM seals for chemical resistance.

What size pressure sprayer do I need?

The right sprayer size depends on the area you need to cover and how long you will be spraying. A 1.5 litre handheld sprayer suits spot treatments and small jobs. The 7.6 and 11.2 litre compression sprayers cover most site and maintenance tasks, and the 13.2 litre Chapin 1949 suits larger concrete pours. For extended spraying over big areas, the 15.1 litre backpack sprayer spreads the weight across your shoulders and back.
