The Metex Expansion Joint Datasheet provides technical details and application guidance for Metex’s high-performance control and expansion joints, designed to reduce cracking and maintain structural integrity in brick and block masonry.
Metex Expansion Joints are flexible, compressible PVC inserts used to absorb movement in masonry walls. They accommodate natural expansion and contraction caused by temperature, moisture and structural shifts, helping prevent cracks and damage to external or internal brickwork.
Each joint strip is manufactured from UV-stabilised PVC for durability and long-term weather resistance. The product is supplied in standard lengths and can be easily cut to size for on-site use.
Flexible, high-quality PVC construction
UV- and weather-resistant for lasting performance
Available with integrated clips for secure fitting
Maintains a clean, consistent joint line
Simple to trim and install with hand tools
Metex Expansion Joints are suitable for use in a wide range of masonry projects where movement control is required, including:
Brick and block cavity walls
Retaining and boundary walls
Masonry façades and cladding systems
Decorative or structural brickwork
By allowing controlled movement, these joints minimise the risk of unsightly cracking and extend the service life of the structure.
Metex recommends installing expansion joints during wall construction at regular intervals in line with BS 5628 and NHBC standards:
Every 6 metres for clay brickwork
Every 9 metres for concrete blockwork
The joint should be placed vertically, aligned centrally and securely clipped into position. Exposed joints can be sealed with mastic where required for weatherproofing.
