Second City Screed Tackles Concrete Work With the Chapin 1949 Sprayer

Sprayers

Second City Screed, based in the West Midlands, is led by founder Joe Baker. Since 2022, Joe and his team have delivered high-quality underfloor heating, flowing screed, concrete, and floor prep services for both domestic and commercial sectors. Known for reliability and attention to detail, they rely on durable, professional-grade tools.

One essential part of Joe’s concrete work is the application of curing agent. This step helps prevent cracking and improves finish quality. To get the job done right, Joe needed a sprayer that was consistent, accurate and hard-wearing. A few months ago, he upgraded from a basic spray bottle to the Chapin 1949 concrete sprayer, and now he won’t go back.

Why the Chapin 1949 Sprayer Works for Screeders

The Chapin 1949 is a 13.2-litre industrial sprayer designed for serious on-site use. Its steel tank is tri-powder coated for durability and built to handle the harshest conditions. And the 100mm wide mouth allows easy cleaning and fast refilling, saving valuable time on site.

The sprayer also features a dripless shut-off with lock-on, a Tri-Lock pump cap, and a brass pump with 1200mm reinforced hose. The FKM seals and gaskets are tough enough for chemical use, including concrete curing agents and pattern imprinted concrete sealer.

With its adjustable spray nozzle, the sprayer gives an even coat with every use, and is ideal for professionals who need reliable, accurate chemical application every day.

Switching to the Chapin 1949 Sprayer

Joe previously used a basic DIY spray bottle for curing agents but found it lacked durability and control. Since switching to the Chapin 1949, he’s seen a big difference.

“Coverage is better, more even, and more accurate. It helps the curing agent work more efficiently on concrete,” he says.

He uses the sprayer only for curing agents to avoid cross-contamination.

At a price point of £180 to £200, Joe believes the sprayer is a solid investment. “It’s definitely worth the price. It does the job so well,” he adds.

He’s also impressed with the build quality. “It’s second to none. It holds up well on site and in the back of the van.”

The FKM seals have also handled high usage and chemical exposure without fail. “It outperforms every sprayer I’ve ever used,” he confirms. “It’s the best spray bottle we have ever used.”

Joe’s only suggestion for improvement is a backpack-style strap for easier carrying when working in wet concrete. His top tip for users: “Clean the sprayer properly and keep the nozzle clear.”
